Is agile the death of projects?

Is the concept of projects dead in agile? Does it matter?

In Scrum they say that each sprint can be seen as a project – but that’s not what we normally mean with a project.

Personally I don’t really care if we call our development efforts project or not. As long as we make use of “traditional” project management practices like for example Risk Management, Stakeholder Analysis, Communication Management and looking further ahead than one sprint – when it adds value (not otherwise).

A more interesting topic is the use of Control Models in agile settings (which is often related to if you define the work as a project or not – because projects are often mandated to use the Project Control Model).
